Maynard, a beloved local businessman is mistaken for the legendary Bigfoot during an inebriated romp through town in a makeshift gorilla costume. The sightings set off an international Bigfoot media spectacle and a windfall of tourism dollars for a simple American town hit by hard times. When Brock Masterson, reality TV’s “Monster Hunter,” arrives to hunt the beast, Maynard agonizes over whether to come clean, destroying the rebirth of his beloved town, or perpetuate the inadvertent hoax.

A pleasant failure to fire that (regardless) isn’t exactly as nutty as it sounds, Seth Henrikson’s Pottersville sets Yuletide cheer with the abnormality of the Furry scene and a crazy fabrication including an artificial Bigfoot. The element make a big appearance for both Henrikson and screenwriter Daniel Meyer, it has pulled in a best retire cast that apparently observed something in the source material that didn’t exactly come through in execution. Topliners including Michael Shannon and Christina Hendricks will probably be beneficial for a few ticks once the pic segues into spilling stages.
Hendricks’ execution here is one of a few signs that we’re watching crafted by unseasoned producers. Not exclusively do they squander her on a thin, one-choke character whose inspirations are questionable, yet Henrikson evokes a depiction with none of the subtlety we’ve seen from the artist before. Some co-stars toll better (Ian McShane, for example), yet as the unwitting instigator of the story’s activity, Hendricks’ character should be far sturdier.
